Armenia and Azerbaijan May Create DNA Database to Search for Missing Persons from Karabakh Wars
Armenia and Azerbaijan are being asked to create an independent DNA database to search for those missing from the First and Second Karabakh Wars. The initiative was outlined in a report by the International Commission on Missing Persons.

“Remains found in areas where hostilities took place may belong to both sides. Therefore, the creation of an independent mechanism for comparative DNA analysis may be one of the few effective ways to confirm identifications and provide results to families,” the document says.

According to the report, this mechanism would ensure a scientific and impartial process in which DNA profiles are compared anonymously and systematically. Such an approach would protect the identification process from any political or national issues.
