Opposition leader Abubakar Yangulbaev put on wanted list

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation has put Abubakar Yangulbaev, a human rights activist, a native of Chechnya, on the federal wanted list. Recently, a criminal case was opened against him under the article on incitement to terrorism (part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code). Earlier, a criminal case against Abubakar Yangulbaev was opened under the article “Organization of extremist activity”. The reason was his videos criticizing the authorities of the Russian Federation and Chechnya as part of the 1ADAT project and in his personal telegram channel.

Prior to this, the Abubakar brothers - Ibragim and Baisangur Yangulbaevs - were also prosecuted under extremist articles. In addition, in 2022, in Nizhny Novgorod, security forces kidnapped their mother, Zarema Musayeva, and took her to Chechnya, where she was recently sentenced to five and a half years on charges of assaulting a police officer.

The Yangulbaev family was forced to emigrate abroad. Abubakar recently reported that four of his relatives were forcibly sent to the war with Ukraine - an uncle and three cousins.
