Pashinyan and Erdogan discussed normalization of relations and peace agreements in the South Caucasus

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made his first working visit to Turkey (in 2023, he attended the presidential inauguration). During the meeting with the head of state Recep Erdogan, the parties discussed the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations and the peace process between Yerevan and Baku.

Pashinyan stressed that Armenia is committed to ensuring peace and stability in the region. At a meeting with the Armenian community in Istanbul, he said that Turkey, along with Azerbaijan, also supported the idea of holding a summit of the European political community in Yerevan in 2026. The Armenian prime minister intends to invite Erdogan to this summit and expects him to come.

The head of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan called this visit historic, since "the leader of Armenia is carrying it out at such a level for the first time." According to Simonyan, Armenia is taking effective steps to neutralize the risks of war with Azerbaijan, which is a close ally of Turkey.
