Pashinyan said that the defeat in Karabakh made Armenia independent
In the United States, at a meeting with members of the Save Armenia organization, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the country gained independence after losing Karabakh in 2020 in the war with Azerbaijan.

“I can say that having suffered a defeat, we gained the opportunity to have an independent and sovereign state,” he said in Washington.

Pashinyan noted that “due to certain circumstances,” there is a lot of negativity in the South Caucasus towards Armenia.

“It is very important to be able to cope with this negativity. We are doing the right thing by trying to cope with this negativity without emotions, in the most effective ways,” the Armenian leader shared.

Also, according to Pashinyan, Yerevan hopes that the establishment of peace in the South Caucasus will be a priority for the US political elite. The Prime Minister emphasized that democratization in Armenia is an irreversible process.

"We are trying to deepen democracy and put it on an institutional basis so that it does not depend on the political will of the ruling forces. Now there is only one instrument with which attempts are being made to hinder Armenia's democratic path - the instrument of war, escalation and conflict," Pashinyan added. Armenia and the United States agreed on a strategic partnership in January of this year. Then-US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the United States intends to "strengthen the protection of Armenia's sovereignty within its internationally recognized borders."
