Georgian President congratulates pro-European candidate on victory in Moldovan elections

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili congratulated Maia Sandu on her victory in the second round of the presidential elections in Moldova.

"Your victory is our victory, Maia Sandu," Zurabishvili said. According to her, despite Russia's interference in the elections, Moldova was saved by the votes of 300,000 Moldovan voters living abroad. At the same time, during the parliamentary elections in Georgia on October 26, the million-strong Georgian diaspora abroad was deprived of its right to vote, Zurabishvili noted.

Maia Sandu declared her victory in the second round of the presidential elections.

"Moldova, today you won. Together we demonstrated the strength of our unity, democracy and commitment to a dignified, European future," she wrote on social media.

According to the election results published by the Central Election Commission after processing 98.9% of the protocols, Sandu is leading with 55.04%, while her rival Alexandru Stoianoglo, who advocates improving relations with the Russian Federation, has 44.96%.
