Azerbaijan celebrates National Salvation Day

In the summer of 1993, the political situation in Azerbaijan was close to critical, and the threat of civil war was brewing in the country. The People's Front, which came to power in May 1992, was unable to govern the state.

As a result, the Popular Front invited Heydar Aliyev to Baku, who was elected chairman of the Supreme Council of Azerbaijan on June 15, 1993. In his new position, he managed to prevent an imminent civil war in a short time.

Since 1997, by the decision of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, June 15 has been celebrated as a holiday, which in 1998 received the status of a state holiday and is a non-working day.
