Russia is once again outraged by Yerevan's participation in the Rome Statute of the ICC
Armenia's participation in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court directly damages Russian-Armenian relations. This was stated by the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"Yerevan's participation in the ICC against the background of quasi-arrest warrants issued in The Hague for Russian officials directly damages our relations. If this could contribute to strengthening certain international legal norms, this could still be understood. But the facts say otherwise: the ICC has not helped to resolve any conflict that it has tried to deal with," Zakharova said.
Last year, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin. The decision was supported by European countries, the United States, and Ukraine. Armenia signed the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court on October 1, 1999. However, the statute was not ratified for a long time. The ratification took place much later, in 2023, which caused a wide resonance, since since then Armenia, along with 123 other states, has automatically undertaken to arrest Putin if he appears on its territory.
