Lawyers and experts recalled the lack of evidence of Abdulmumin Gadzhiev's guilt

The Military Court of Appeal continued to consider the appeal in the criminal case of Dagestan journalist Abdulmumin Gadzhiev. In September 2023, he was sentenced to 17 years in a maximum security penal colony under articles on "participation in the activities of terrorist organizations" and "financing terrorism."

In court, the lawyers recalled that the prosecution did not explain the essence of its evidence. The case involves bank cards, and when Gadzhiev paid with them in a store, this was regarded as financing terrorism. Experts completely refuted the conclusions that the journalist's articles in the Chernovik publication contained calls for participation in terrorist activities.

Gadzhiev's colleagues and the editor-in-chief were questioned, confirming that the defendant could not have written an article justifying terrorism without their knowledge.

Let us recall that, according to the investigation, the journalist published materials about the Ansar charity fund without mentioning that part of the money collected was sent to the Islamic State, an organization banned in the Russian Federation. At the same time, the results of examinations and witness testimony confirmed the defendant's innocence.
