Yagublu continues his hunger strike in an Azerbaijani prison despite health problems

Imprisoned Azerbaijani opposition activist Tofig Yagublu refuses to end his hunger strike, despite persistent entreaties from his family and his deteriorating health. According to his daughter, Nigar Hazi, Yagublu is on his eighth day of hunger strike in a solitary confinement cell in Baku's Pretrial Detention Center No. 1.

"He's lost a lot of weight, his eyes are sunken. I'm sure his body won't be able to handle it soon," Hazi complained.

She also suggested that Yagublu's placement in solitary confinement may have been a provocation related to his son's protest in Washington, where President Ilham Aliyev was visiting.

As a reminder, Tofig Yagublu, a member of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) and the Musavat Party's Coordination Center, was sentenced to nine years in prison in 2025 on charges of fraud and document forgery. Yagublu denies these charges, claiming his prosecution is politically motivated.
