Responding to questions about the protests in front of the Iranian embassy in Yerevan, the prime minister noted that citizens in Armenia have been guaranteed the right to freedom of expression since 2018, and the authorities cannot selectively restrict such protests. He also assured that the government will closely monitor the situation and take all necessary measures to ensure the safe and uninterrupted operation of the embassy, as well as hold accountable those who violate the law. Several administrative proceedings have reportedly already been initiated in connection with the protests.
These statements were preceded by a speech by Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgolami, who expressed concern that Armenia could be used as a springboard for activities by forces hostile to Iran. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the protests that had been taking place in front of the embassy for several days, accompanied by offensive and obscene language.
