Turkey and Armenia plan to discuss the opening of borders as part of the ongoing process of normalizing relations. Serdar Kilic, Turkey's special representative, said that he is working with his Armenian counterpart Ruben Rubinyan on a number of issues to bring the two countries closer together.
At the upcoming meeting, the delegations plan to analyze the work done, confirm the agreements reached, and discuss prospects for economic development. Kilic noted that Yerevan expressed readiness to open the borders, emphasizing mutual interest in implementing beneficial projects. The Turkish delegation is expected to cross the Armenian border through the Alyjan checkpoint for talks in Yerevan.
Today, there are no direct diplomatic relations between Turkey and Armenia; the border has been closed on Ankara's initiative since 1993.
