A decision on whether to extradite mathematician and blogger Mikhail Verbitsky, detained in Yerevan, to Russian authorities will be made soon. He is expected to be released soon, according to Artur Sakunts, head of the Yerevan-based human rights organization Helsinki Citizens' Assembly - Vanadzor.
Armenia refused to extradite a wanted American to Russia
The Armenian authorities allowed US citizen Eric Thomas Creamer to leave for his homeland. Russia demanded that Yerevan extradite him as a person accused of drug possession.
Eric Creamer is an American philologist who taught English at the language center at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in Moscow in 2015-2017. According to him, in April 2017, security forces detained him on the street at night, planted drugs, threatened him and demanded half a million rubles.
The US citizen was released on bail, but he managed to leave Russia: first to Georgia, then to Armenia. Armenian border guards did not allow him to leave the country, but they did not detain him at Russia's request. Now he has been released to the US.
