Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has urged Armenia not to rush into reorienting its trade toward the European Union. He suggested that Yerevan first assess the prospects of maintaining current export volumes.
On the night of October 2, the Volgograd region was among the Russian regions targeted by Ukrainian drones. Governor Andrey Bocharov reported a massive drone attack on the region's industrial infrastructure.
He did not specify exactly which facilities were targeted but reported a fire in an apartment building. According to the governor, one person was injured and hospitalized.
An analysis of eyewitness footage by the monitoring channel Astra indicates that a fire broke out near the Volgograd Oil Refinery and the adjacent "Kaustik" chemical plant. While the glow from the fire is visible in that direction, it is not yet possible to determine exactly what is burning.
Ukrainian monitoring channels reported that, on the night in question, Volgograd residents reported drones flying overhead and numerous explosions "in all districts of the city," while also complaining about the absence of air-raid sirens.
The Volgograd Oil Refinery is owned by Lukoil and is one of Russia's largest oil processing facilities. Its nominal capacity is approximately 14.8–15.7 million tons of oil per year (roughly 5% of Russia's total oil processing volume). The plant produces, among other things, gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, fuel oil, and bitumen.
The Volgograd Oil Refinery has previously been targeted by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. A major fire broke out at the facility following a strike on the night of July 31, 2024. Damage to key production facilities and the shutdown of major primary oil processing units (AVT-1 and AVT-6) were reported.
JSC Kaustik is one of the leading enterprises in the Volgograd region; it produces basic dual-use chemical products that are critical to the Russian military-industrial complex.
On the morning of October 2, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported the interception and destruction of 646 Ukrainian drones overnight. According to the agency, the drones were shot down over 13 regions—including Rostov and Astrakhan—as well as over occupied Crimea and the waters of the Black and Azov Seas.
Rostov Region Governor Yury Slyusar announced on his Telegram channel that over 110 UAVs had been destroyed within a 24-hour period in the city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky and nine districts of the region: Verkhnedonskoy, Kamensky, Millerovsky, Sovetsky (rural), Tarasovsky, Ust-Donetsky, Chertkovsky, Sholokhovsky, and Bokovsky. He stated that falling drone debris had ignited dry grass in the Chertkovsky district. There were no casualties.
