On the eve of US Vice President J.D. Vance's visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan, more than 20 Armenian human rights and civil society organizations sent him an open letter calling for support for the release of Armenian prisoners held in Baku.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador in response to statements by Russian State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin. Baku protests Zatulin's position, which they believe has long attacked Azerbaijan's sovereignty, encouraged separatism, and distorted information about the trials of Armenian citizens found guilty of war crimes.
Azerbaijan called such statements unacceptable.
The day before, Azerbaijan announced lengthy and life sentences for the leaders of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
Concurrently, Lithuania expressed its strong protest to Russia, presenting a note regarding attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities and residents. According to the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, the choice of civilian targets, including a bus carrying miners and a market, demonstrates that Russia is not interested in peace talks and an end to aggression against Ukraine, but is merely feigning participation in dialogue.
