Elena Patyaeva—a friend of Seda Suleymanova, who disappeared three years ago after being forcibly returned from St. Petersburg to Chechnya—was detained in Grozny. On August 23, Patyaeva stood by the monument to journalists who died for freedom of speech, holding a sign that read: "I demand an investigation into the murder of Seda Suleymanova." This was reported by the human rights project "Slovo Zashchite" (Word for the Defense).
Azerbaijan sent a note of protest to Russia
The Embassy of Azerbaijan sent a protest note to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs due to recent statements by State Duma deputy Oleg Matveichev. His remarks were deemed unacceptable and aimed at destabilizing the situation in the South Caucasus.
Earlier, Matveichev told the Armenian news agency that "Baku and Ankara provoke Armenia to continue the conflict". The Embassy considered the statements about provocation of the conflict by Azerbaijan against the background of the ongoing reconstruction works in Karabakh absurd, noting that such statements cast a shadow over the mediation activities of Russia.
