Azerbaijani economist goes on hunger strike in prison for more than a month

Doctoral student at Istanbul University, economist Fazil Gasimov has been on hunger strike for 31 days in the Baku pre-trial detention center. He only drinks water. This was stated by lawyer Rovshana Rahimli.

“Fazil Gasimov had many health problems. He feels dizzy, his vision becomes dark, and he can no longer maintain his balance. Despite this, he stated that he was not under medical supervision. His weight and blood pressure are not measured,” the defender shared.

Fazil Gasimov was detained on August 7, 2023. He was charged under Article 204.3.1 of the Criminal Code (production, acquisition or sale of counterfeit money as part of an organized group). Recently, Gasimov, in his address to the chief prosecutor, the ombudsman, the local and international community, stated that he gave confessions under torture. He stressed that he did not give Ibadoglu any money.
