Azerbaijani oppositionist goes on hunger strike under arrest

Activist of the opposition Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Elnur Hasanov has been on a hunger strike for six days in the Baku pre-trial detention center to protest against the seizure of recordings that he prepared for speaking in court. The prisoner's blood pressure dropped significantly. Party comrades tried to convince Hasanov to stop his hunger strike, but he refused.

Last year, due to a power outage in his grandmother’s house, Elnur Hasanov twice came to the state energy company to protest. In addition, he wrote a critical post against the authorities on social networks. The court sentenced him to 30 days of arrest on charges of hooliganism and disobedience to police orders.

Subsequently, in November 2023, Elnur Hasanov was arrested on charges of drug trafficking. The activist believes that the real reason for his detention is criticism of the actions of the authorities.
