Chechen human rights activist accused of failing to report himself as a foreign agent

The Kuntsevsky District Court of Moscow registered an administrative case on the activities of a "foreign agent" without reporting himself against a native of Chechnya, director of the human rights organization Human Rights Center Ichkeria ("Center for Human Rights - Ichkeria") Aslan Artsuyev.

At the beginning of the year, the Russian Ministry of Justice added Artsuyev to the list of "foreign agents". According to Russian officials, Artsuyev called for the violation of the territorial integrity of Russia, disseminated false information and discredited the Russian authorities and the army. Living in Germany, he held protests demanding an investigation into the murder of former Chechen field commander Zelimkhan Khangoshvili in Berlin.

At the end of 2021, Aslan Artsuyev reported the detention of his brothers and uncle in Chechnya. According to the oppositionist, the actions of the security forces are revenge for criticism of Vladimir Putin and Ramzan Kadyrov.
