Dagestan activist for the second year is in pre-trial detention after the planting of weapons and drugs

For the second year, activist Eduard Atayev has been in Khasavyurt detention center. On March 26, 2022, operatives planted a grenade, a gun, ammunition and drugs.

Earlier, the Supreme Court of Dagestan refused an appeal to the defense of former Opposition Politician Alexei Navalny’s former Chief of Staff in Makhachkala, Eduard Atayev. His lawyers pointed to his cardiovascular disease, as well as a lack of convictions and evidence of the defendant’s involvement in the crime.

Atayev was first charged with illegal possession of a grenade, a pistol and ammunition. In the car, on the way to the police department, after a search of his house, the activist was forced to put objects like a grenade and a gun in his hands. He was then also charged with drug possession.

Eduard Atayev noted that the investigation was led by a man, whom he remembered after one of the pickets in Makhachkala.
