State Duma deputy from Chechnya will seek to lift the ban on hijabs in Vladimir schools

State Duma deputy from the Chechen Republic Adam Delimkhanov said that he will seek to lift the ban on wearing hijabs in schools in the Vladimir region. He called the decision of the regional authorities a gross violation of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of religion, and promised that he and his colleagues will defend the rights of followers of Islam.

“There is no doubt that we will achieve the lifting of this ban and will fully defend the rights of Muslims. I also want to once again explain the difference between the niqab and the hijab. The first is women's clothing that covers the face, while the hijab does not cover the face. We ourselves do not approve of the niqab, and as for the hijab, it is the religious duty of a Muslim woman,” Delimkhanov wrote on his Telegram channel.

Earlier, the Coordination Center of Muslims of the North Caucasus spoke out against the order of the Ministry of Education of the Vladimir Region.

Vice-Governor of the Vladimir Region Vladimir Kuimov explained the reasons for the ban on hijabs and niqabs in schools. According to him, in several localities of the region, students emphasized their religious affiliation, and this raised questions from their classmates, which sometimes led to conflicts.

The vice-governor added that "in accordance with the Constitution of our country, Russia is a secular state," and emphasized that the order of the regional department does not apply to religious schools, and is advisory in nature for colleges and universities.
