Nearly three dozen Armenian human rights and civil society organizations have sent an open letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa calling for the release of Armenian prisoners held in Baku. The letter was published on the eve of the 8th European Political Community Summit and the Armenia-European Union meeting, scheduled to take place in Armenia.
Two Dagestani residents shot dead by police officers
A shootout in Dagestan resulted in the death of two local residents by police officers. According to the state news agency TASS, citing a law enforcement source, police claim the dead men opened fire first. Their names have not been released, and there is no evidence to support this claim.
The incident occurred on the outskirts of the village of Ullubiyaul in the Karabudakhkent district during a search of a car carrying young men aged 18 and 20. Weapons and an improvised explosive device were allegedly seized from the car. A criminal investigation has been opened.
