An expert from Dagestan expressed concerns about the shallowing of the Caspian Sea

Prolonged shallowing of the Caspian Sea could hit plans for the development of beach tourism in Dagestan. This was reported by leading researcher at the Institute of Geology of the Far Eastern Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences Idris Idrisov.

According to him, the decline in the level of the Caspian Sea is due to climate change. Therefore, it is important to observe how the situation will change in the spring, with the beginning of the melting of glaciers.

“Today you build hotels on the shore, and in a couple of years the water’s edge moves 300 meters. This creates certain economic risks,” explains Idrisov.

In addition, in December 2022, 2.5 thousand Caspian seal carcasses were found on the shores of the Caspian Sea in Dagestan. According to the main version, the cause of her death is infection with highly pathogenic avian influenza.
