During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
The European Court of Human Rights has considered a number of complaints about the inclusion of citizens and organizations in the Russian register of foreign agents. Among those to whom the Russian authorities are obliged to pay compensation are entities from the North Caucasus Federal District.
In particular, the ECHR awarded 15 thousand euros on a complaint by a journalist from Dagestan, Murad Muradov. Previously, he tried to challenge his inclusion in the register of foreign agents in Russian courts. In 2021, Muradov held solo pickets in Makhachkala in support of media outlets recognized by the Russian authorities as foreign agents and illegally arrested journalists.
Almost 10 thousand euros were also awarded to the Ingush non-profit organization "Genesis", which was engaged in helping refugees and internally displaced persons. In addition, the ECHR recognized the inclusion of the regional branch of the Red Cross in the register as a violation. The Russian authorities considered the receipt of funding from the International Committee of the Red Cross from Switzerland as the basis for this decision.
