Estonia deported a Chechen man to Russia, with human rights activists complaining of violations of his rights

Estonian authorities have deported a Chechen native to Russia who had applied for international protection, according to Kavkaz.Realii, citing human rights activist and Ichkeria's representative abroad, Roza Dunayeva.

According to her, the deportation took place on March 20. The man's name is being withheld for security reasons, as human rights organizations continue to monitor his fate. Dunayeva notes that the applicant was denied full access to legal assistance or the opportunity to effectively defend his rights during the asylum process. Details of the proceedings themselves remain unknown.
It is only known that the deportee "tried for many months to prove that his life was in danger." The human rights activist emphasized that the incident is particularly concerning given Estonia's historical experience.

"This case is particularly sensitive against the backdrop of historical memory." "Estonia is a country that has struggled for independence and escaped pressure from Russia. Therefore, it is expected to be particularly understanding of the plight of people fleeing persecution," Dunaeva said.
