The European Union has suspended the integration of Georgia and financial support for its defense

The process of Georgia's integration into the EU has been suspended due to the adoption of the law on foreign agents. This was stated by the EU Ambassador to the country Pavel Gerczynski. The European Union also froze 30 million euros allocated for the Georgian Ministry of Defense.

“EU leaders are not clear about the true intentions of the current Georgian government. How quickly it becomes a member of the EU depends on the Georgians themselves. Regarding cooperation in the field of security and defense, we regret to inform you that EU leaders have also decided to freeze the money that was allocated to support the Georgian Defense Forces under the European Peace Fund (EPF). And this is only the first step, there will be other steps,” Gerchinsky noted.

He expressed hope that after the parliamentary elections, which will be held in Georgia in October, the newly formed government will again begin serious work towards integration into the European Union. He also emphasized that before the adoption of the law on foreign agents by the ruling party, the EU warned that this would be followed by a reaction, and now the time has come.
