Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili encountered a protest by Georgian expatriates in New York. The demonstration took place outside the restaurant Ubani, where the minister had arrived accompanied by representatives of the Foreign Ministry, Netgazeti reports.

Bochorishvili was met with shouts of "Aren't you ashamed?!" Arriving at the restaurant with her were Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia, Georgia’s Permanent Representative to the UN David Bakradze, and other ministry officials.

The Georgian delegation is in New York to attend the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. It had previously been reported that Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze also planned to visit Ubani; however, according to Netgazeti, he likely changed his plans following the announcement of the protest.

During the demonstration, expatriates confronted Foreign Ministry representative Archil Karaulashvili, questioning why they had been deprived of the opportunity to participate in elections.

One of the protesters stated that Georgians are forced to remain abroad to earn "a crust of bread" for their families. Karaulashvili replied: "There are jobs in Georgia, too."
