The head of the Kabardino-Balkarian Ministry of Emergency Situations has been remanded in custody for two months

The Basmanny District Court in Moscow has remanded Mikhail Nadezhin, head of the Main Directorate of the Kabardino-Balkarian Ministry of Emergency Situations, in pretrial detention for two months. He is accused of accepting a bribe on an especially large scale.

Nadezhin was arrested on Tuesday morning in connection with a criminal case under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Russian Criminal Code. He is accused of accepting a bribe of 2 million rubles. According to investigators, in exchange for this sum, he agreed to sign fire safety documents without conducting any actual inspections. He faces up to 15 years in prison.
