Previously, in Croatia, refugees from Chechnya had been placed in deportation camps. At the end of 2022, about 20 people who had fled Russia from mobilization were detained at the airport. Upon arrest, their passports were confiscated and placed in a cold room with bars. After that, representatives of the Chechen diaspora held a protest outside the Croatian Embassy in Austria. They opposed the extradition of refugees who had left Russia because of military mobilization.
