Authorities in Russia’s North Ossetia republic have said they are taking measures to protect Karina Kodzayeva, who became the target of an online harassment campaign after posts published by platforms affiliated with the Caucasian Community movement. In a response to journalist Ksenia Sobchak’s appeal, the office of the regional human rights commissioner said the case is under the personal supervision of regional head Sergei Menyaylo and that law enforcement agencies may seek to block channels used to distribute unlawful content and identify those responsible for administering them.
In Ingushetia, the proportion of families that can be attributed to the middle class is 1.4% of the total. In Chechnya - 1.7%. According to this indicator, the republics rank last in the country, as stated in a study by the RIA Rating agency.
Dagestan (2.6%) is in 82nd place in the rating, Kabardino-Balkaria (2.7%) is in 81st place, Karachay-Cherkessia (3.3%) is in 78th, North Ossetia (3.9%) is in 72nd, Stavropol Territory (4.7%) is in 66th.
The average for Russia is 11%. The largest number of families belonging to the middle class lives in Yamal (39.2%). Also in the lead are Chukotka (32.5%), Magadan region (31.9%) and Moscow (30%).
By the middle class, the experts meant families that can afford to buy a car and an apartment corresponding to the size of the family, as well as a quality annual vacation. At the same time, after monthly payments on loans for a car and housing for everyday expenses, they must have at least two regional subsistence levels per person. In addition, such families can monthly form small savings for an unforeseen event.
