Ingush doctor and activist's sentence was not increased

The Supreme Court of Ingushetia reviewed the materials of the criminal case against the doctor and activist Bagaudin Gaitukiev, who was previously sentenced to five years probation. The prosecutor refused to demand a harsher sentence.

At the end of 2023, the Magas District Court sentenced 41-year-old Gaitukiev to five years of suspended imprisonment in the case of aiding members of an illegal armed group. He himself denied all accusations.

Bagaudin Gaitukiev was detained in March 2022. He stated that he did not hand over the pistol to the witness presented by the investigation - a member of an illegal armed formation. The witness himself recanted his testimony during interrogation. In addition, Gaytukiev has an alibi: at the time of the “crime” he was outside Russia, which is confirmed by witness testimony and marks in his international passport.

Bagaudin Gaitukiev gained fame as a philanthropist, purchasing medicines for the poor. Also in 2009, he carried out an operation on the then head of the republic, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, who was wounded after a suicide attack on his motorcade. The doctor was awarded the title “Honored Doctor of the Republic of Ingushetia.”
