Irakli Kobakhidze: “We support Ukraine on all platforms”

Georgia supported more than 600 decisions and resolutions that provided support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and condemnation of Russian military aggression. This is how Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze commented to journalists on the relations between the two countries on the sidelines of the conference on the restoration of Ukraine in Berlin.

“We support Ukraine on all platforms. Georgia provided her with a lot of humanitarian assistance. This includes, among other things, the fact that Georgia has accepted about 26 thousand refugees from Ukraine and provided them with free services in various ways. Of course, we especially care about Ukrainian children. They are provided with free education, including in Ukrainian. This is our responsibility, our duty to the Ukrainian people,” Kobakhidze noted.

The European Union will provide Ukraine with the first 1.5 billion euros of proceeds from frozen Russian assets in July this year. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced this at a conference on the restoration of Ukraine in Germany. She also said that the EU should begin accession negotiations with Ukraine by the end of June.

The Ukraine Recovery Conference focuses on four thematic areas: mobilizing the private sector for recovery and economic growth; social recovery and human capital for the future of Ukraine; restoration of municipalities and regions; accession to the European Union and related reforms.
