French President Emmanuel Macron called his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev and expressed solidarity and support for Azerbaijan in the wake of Iran's air strike on his territory. This was reported today by the Azerbaijani presidential press service.
The Iranian military command issued an ultimatum to Baku demanding an immediate end to military-technical cooperation with Israel. Tehran insists on severing ties with the Israeli military, intelligence agencies, and their assets in Azerbaijan.
The official press release from the Iranian General Staff stated: "Baku must immediately expel Zionists from its territory, otherwise they will become targets for our armed forces."
Tehran noted that it does not wish to harm neighboring Muslim countries, but warned that if the Israeli presence remains, relevant facilities could be considered targets for the Iranian armed forces.
This statement came in the wake of the March 5 incident, when drones launched from Iran struck the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. One drone damaged an airport terminal, and another crashed near a school. Baku assessed Tehran's actions as a violation of international law and demanded clarification and guarantees of non-aggression in the future.
