Iranian Drones Crash in Azerbaijan – Baku Demands Explanation

On March 5, at midday, drones launched from Iran exploded at the airport in the Azerbaijani city of Nakhchivan and near a school in the village of Shekerabad. Nakhchivan is approximately 30 kilometers from the Iranian border.

The strikes damaged the airport building and, according to media reports, injured four civilians. Firefighters and ambulance crews were dispatched to the scene.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry summoned the Iranian ambassador to present a note of protest. The ministry condemned Tehran's actions, calling them a violation of international law, and demanded measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

"The technical parameters of the UAVs and the details of these attacks are currently being studied. The Islamic Republic of Iran bears full responsibility for what happened. The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan is preparing the necessary response measures to protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country, as well as to ensure the safety of civilians and infrastructure. These acts of aggression will not go unanswered," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
