During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
Today marks five years since journalist from Dagestan Abdulmumin Gadzhiev was imprisoned. He is recognized as a political prisoner, like other defendants in the criminal case - Kemal Tambiev and Abubakar Rizvanov.
In December 2023, lawyers of the Memorial Center sent an appeal to the UN regarding the case of Abdulmumin Gadzhiev. The message states that the journalist is being persecuted for his professional activities and religious views.
Let us recall that in September 2023, the Rostov District Military Court found Gadzhiev guilty and sentenced him to 17 years in prison. The editor of the “Religion” section of the Chernovik publication was tried under the article on “participation in the activities of terrorist organizations” and “financing terrorism.” According to investigators, the journalist published materials about the Ansar charity foundation, without mentioning that part of the collected funds was sent to the Islamic State, an organization banned in the Russian Federation. It is noteworthy that the examinations did not find any signs of justification for terrorism in Hajiyev’s articles, and prosecution witnesses spoke in favor of the defendants.
