The Nalchik Garrison Military Court found serviceman Akromat Bersanov-Tsaroyev guilty of leaving his unit without leave (Part 5, Article 337 of the Russian Criminal Code). He was sentenced to five years and one month in prison.

Natives of Chechnya, students of Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after. HM. Berbekov, filed a complaint with the Chechen authorities. According to students, the university management prohibited performing prayers there, which are obligatory for Muslims.
In one of the public videos, a university representative noted that this ban did not come from the rector, but was provided for by higher authorities. He also said that according to the law, prayers cannot be performed in a secular educational institution, while the ban itself is in no way directed against Chechens, Dagestanis and natives of other republics studying at the university.
“The ban on prayer is a violation of the constitutional rights of citizens. The Basic Law of our country guarantees citizens freedom of conscience and religion. If a person’s faith says that he needs to pray five times a day, then this is his right. I have already contacted the university management, who reported that the issue is being resolved. The situation has been brought to the attention of the head of the region,” said Human Rights Commissioner of Chechnya Mansur Soltaev. He expressed hope that the leadership of KBSU and the region will understand the situation and make the right decision.
