Yerevan has officially responded to the tragic events surrounding Iran. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan sent a message to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, expressing support for the losses among the country's leadership and civilians.
According to the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan, the investigation into the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane will be expedited. The investigation commission is making every effort to complete its work as quickly as possible, but no exact timeframe has yet been set.
Recently, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized Russia's responsibility for the downing of the AZAL plane. In a statement, he reiterated the country's principled position regarding the crash, which occurred on December 25, 2024. According to Baku, the incident was the result of actions by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
"Russia must fulfill the promises made by Russian President Vladimir Putin at his meeting with the President of Azerbaijan in October 2025. We expect the Russian side to take all necessary actions, provide a legal assessment of the incident, and pay compensation," Bayramov noted.
An AZAL Embraer 190, flying from Baku to Grozny, crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan. Of the 67 people on board, 29 survived. It was later determined that the plane came under fire from Russian air defense systems. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev supported this theory, which led to a deterioration in relations between the two countries. In October 2025, during a meeting with the Azerbaijani president in Dushanbe, Vladimir Putin acknowledged Russia's involvement in the incident for the first time. Ilham Aliyev accepted an apology and assurances of compensation for damages and punishment for those responsible.
