Kobakhidze commented on the summoning of the German and British ambassadors to the Georgian Foreign Ministry

The Georgian Foreign Ministry continues to summon the heads of diplomatic missions, and the next to be summoned was British Ambassador Gareth Ward. He made no comments to the press before entering the ministry building. Yesterday, September 24, German Ambassador Peter Fischer was summoned to the ministry.

Commenting on the summoning of diplomats, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze noted that it was a "diplomatic measure."

"All ambassadors represent the state, and when you summon an ambassador, you are applying a kind of diplomatic measure against the state; this is logical. An ambassador does not act independently," the head of government told reporters.

According to him, "European bureaucracy is currently in a difficult situation, and this concerns not only the structures of the European Union but also the structures of the respective states." These problems, Kobakhidze asserts, are reflected, in particular, in the actions of ambassadors.

As a reminder, following yesterday's meeting between First Deputy Foreign Minister Giorgi Zurabashvili and German Ambassador Peter Fischer, the Georgian Foreign Ministry issued a statement in which it emphasized the need for the diplomat to comply with the Vienna Convention and expressed concern over "attempts to promote a radical agenda." The German Foreign Ministry, for its part, condemned the "aggressive rhetoric" and the "unfounded summons" of the ambassador to the Georgian diplomatic mission.
