Colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadzhiev hope for a fair appeal
In Makhachkala, colleagues of journalist Abdulmumin Gadzhiev of the Chernovik publication held a picket in his support. The founder of the newspaper, Magdi Kamalov, and deputy editor-in-chief, Magomed Magomedov, demanded that their colleague be released and that the criminal case fabricated against him be dropped.

Kamalov and Magomedov expressed hope that when considering the appeal against Gadzhiev's sentence, "common sense will prevail and the judges will make a truly fair decision."

Recall that in September 2023, the Rostov District Military Court found Abdulmumin Gadzhiev guilty and sentenced him to 17 years in prison. The editor of the Religion section of the Chernovik publication was tried under the article on "participation in the activities of terrorist organizations" and "financing terrorism."

According to the investigation, the journalist published materials about the Ansar charity foundation without mentioning that part of the money collected was sent to the Islamic State, an organization banned in the Russian Federation. At the same time, examinations did not find any signs of justification of terrorism in Gadzhiev’s articles, and prosecution witnesses spoke in favor of the defendant.
