The commander of the Akhmat Kadyrov Special Police Regiment of Chechnya’s Interior Ministry, Zamid Chalaev, attempted during an Instagram livestream the previous day to explain a video address he had posted two days earlier, in which he threatened suspected extremists with a bullet “without trial or investigation”.
The colonel complained that “apparently, some people misunderstood” his speech, particularly his “call not to go out at night and so on”. However, he effectively repeated his earlier threats, once again declaring his readiness to shoot those who, according to him, provide support to terrorists.
“We have a leader elected by the people, and we have people who stand behind him and maintain order for the Chechen people. We will show no leniency to anyone who helps someone we are looking for to hide or escape,” said the ally of the Chechen leader.
He then issued another unequivocal warning that he was prepared to take extreme measures.
“We will shoot anyone who provides support to terrorists. And we have shot them, I’m telling you. And there is no one who can stop us from doing so. Translate it however you like, pass it on wherever you want. We will shoot even someone who has merely thought about getting close to the Wahhabis,” the special police regiment commander stressed.
