Crimean Tatar political prisoner complained of deteriorating health

Crimean Tatar political prisoner Ismet Ibragimov, serving a sentence in Dimitrovgrad prison in the Ulyanovsk region, needs dental treatment. The man is also bothered by stomach pain.

The wife of a Crimean Tatar, Raziye Mustafaeva, and his three children were able to go on a long-term date with him for the first time in four years. Ibragimov said that he would spend two years in prison instead of the five imposed by the court, taking into account the time spent in a pre-trial detention center.

In October 2023, the military court of appeal in Vlasikha (Moscow region) approved the sentence of Arabic expert Ismet Ibragimov - 19 years in a maximum security colony. He was found guilty of participating in the political party Hizb ut-Tahrir, recognized as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation.

“Under this auspices of the fight against terrorism, the activities of human rights activists and religious leaders are actually imprisoned and suppressed. This is in addition to the huge number of procedural violations during the investigation and during the trial,” lawyer Emil Kurbedinov commented on the verdict.

There is no evidence of specific terrorist acts in the materials of Ibragimov’s case. According to investigators, in March 2018, he organized a Hizb ut-Tahrir cell in the Simferopol region, led it, conducted propaganda and attracted new supporters. This organization operates legally in Ukraine and other countries in Europe and the world, where no one persecutes its members.
