During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
Crimean Tatar political prisoner refused to be transferred to a colony closer to home
The Federal Penitentiary Service has refused for the fifth time to transfer citizen journalist Remzi Bekirov, who was sentenced to 19 years, from IK-33 in Khakassia to a colony closer to his home in Crimea.
“Every time I get refusals for various reasons. Now they have finally made it clear that they will not transfer me closer to home. And 5,300 kilometers is very far for us. It will be very difficult to go on visits with children,” said Bekirov’s wife, Khalide.
Earlier, lawyer Emil Kurbedinov reported that Crimean Tatar journalist Remzi Bekirov is subjected to illegal pressure from the colony administration. He is regularly placed in a punishment cell without justification. In addition, the prisoner is deprived of the opportunity to write letters to his relatives and make phone calls.
In March 2022, the Southern District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don sentenced Remzi Bekirov to 19 years in prison. He was found guilty of participating in the Islamic party Hiz ut-Tahrir, which is recognized as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation.
