Timur Agrba's defense intends to seek an overturn of the sentence, which they believe was unfounded. Lawyer Victoria Novikova stated that most of the publications that served as the basis for the conviction concerned the recognition of Shamil Basayev as a hero of Abkhazia, a position confirmed by official Abkhaz authorities.
Crimean Tatar human rights activist and journalist Server Mustafayev, sentenced to 14 years in prison, was transferred to a cell-type unit (PKT) in Penal Colony No. 1 in Tambov for one month. According to his wife, Maya Mustafayeva, her husband has been in strict conditions since February 2024. The prison administration previously attributed the tightening of measures to the "severity of the article."
It was previously reported that Server Mustafayev was not receiving the necessary medical care. The Crimean Tatar suffers from severe back pain, and although a prison neurologist prescribed an X-ray and a course of injections in February, the treatment has not been administered.
Mustafayev's family was forced to provide his pain medication themselves. Furthermore, he is subject to pressure in the prison, is serving his third year in strict conditions, and has been repeatedly placed in solitary confinement. The man had previously reported deteriorating vision and heart problems while in prison.
Mustafayev was arrested in 2018. In 2020, the Southern District Military Court sentenced him to 14 years in prison on charges of participating in the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir. It is banned in Russia but operates freely in Ukraine and other countries worldwide and in Europe.
