At a ceremony in Abu Dhabi, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity from the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The leaders of the two countries were awarded for their consistent advancement of the peace agenda and their commitment to ensuring cooperation and stability in the region.
According to Armenpress, during the event, the Armenian prime minister noted that what is happening today seemed unimaginable for many years.
"The leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan share the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity to mark the establishment of peace between the two countries. Over the past 40 years, you have never seen the words 'peace,' 'Armenia,' and 'Azerbaijan' together. And even if they were, it would mean something incredible. "That's why what happened in 2025 and is happening today is truly incredible," Pashinyan shared his impressions.
According to him, receiving the award confirms that the chapter in the conflict between Yerevan and Baku has been closed; otherwise, the fact that both sides came and accepted this high award together would have been meaningless.
Ilham Aliyev, in turn, emphasized that the two countries, which had been in conflict for more than three decades, are now learning to live in peace.
"This is a special feeling. We have never lived in peace since gaining independence," the Azerbaijani president emphasized, adding that this example can serve as a guide for other states in conflict.
Armenpress notes that the 2026 laureates were selected by an independent, world-class jury, consisting of renowned figures and experts in the field of dialogue and coexistence. According to the publication, the award received a record number of nominations this year, with candidates representing more than 75 countries.
