Kirill Glazov, a former member of the People's Assembly of Dagestan who was stripped of his mandate on February 26, has been arrested on suspicion of large-scale fraud. According to law enforcement agencies, Glazov and his accomplices allegedly embezzled 137 million rubles in budget funds allocated for the purchase of rapid coronavirus testing kits in 2021.
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, speaking to the Council of EU Foreign Ministers in Brussels, commented on the situation in Tbilisi. She reiterated that "Georgia has faced a setback [on its European integration path] like no other country."
Addressing the Georgian government, the politician noted that "if the country wants to move forward on the European path, they must act differently."
"We will continue to support civil society and independent media, because this is crucial not only to give people hope, but also to tell the government that it is wrong to ignore the wishes of the people," Marta Kos stated.
She also expressed hope that, thanks to the efforts of the Georgian people, "the Georgian government will return to the European path."
