On the eve of US Vice President J.D. Vance's visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan, more than 20 Armenian human rights and civil society organizations sent him an open letter calling for support for the release of Armenian prisoners held in Baku.
A memorial plaque to journalist and human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya has been removed in Moscow for the eighth time. Kirill Goncharov, chairman of the Moscow regional branch of the Yabloko party, announced the incident, posting a photo from the scene.
According to him, the previously installed plaque was still in place on February 5. As a reminder, on January 27, Yabloko representatives installed a new wooden plaque to replace the previous, destroyed plaques.
The memorial was located near the building on Lesnaya Street where Novaya Gazeta journalist Anna Politkovskaya was murdered on October 7, 2006. She is known for her criticism of the Russian authorities and her coverage of human rights violations in Chechnya. Despite the conviction of those responsible for the murder, those who ordered the crime have never been found.
