The least number of smokers was found in Chechnya

The lowest prevalence of smoking among the regions of the Russian Federation was recorded in Chechnya: this bad habit is inherent in only 0.25 of the population. Next come Ingushetia (6.1%), Kabardino-Balkaria (10.3%), Karachay-Cherkessia (11.1%). These are the data of the Central Research Institute for the Organization and Informatization of Healthcare (TsNIIOIZ) of the Ministry of Health.

The largest number of residents smoke in the Jewish Autonomous Region (34.3%), Amur Region (28.7%), Buryatia (27.7%), Tyva (27.1%) and the Altai Republic (26.9%).

In general, the number of smokers in the country has gradually decreased since 2019. If then an average of 23.2% of residents smoked, then in 2024 - 18.6%.
