Mikheil Saakashvili called on citizens to protest against the ruling party and government of Georgia

If Georgia does not receive EU candidate status, Georgians together must push for the resignation of the government and the ruling Georgian Dream party, as well as the calling of new elections. Former President of the country Mikheil Saakashvili stated this via video link at the court hearing.

According to Saakashvili, the masters of the current Georgian authorities sit in the Kremlin. The ex-president is convinced that he is being punished for combating theft in Georgia and helping Ukraine. “We must take relations with Russia into our own hands. Its agents everywhere, including my poisoning, were planned by the FSB,” Saakashvili added.

Mikheil Saakashvili is accused of abuse of power. During his presidency in Tbilisi, a protest rally on November 7, 2007 was dispersed, as well as a special forces invasion of the office of the Imedi television company.

Saakashvili’s associates are planning a coup in Georgia according to the Euromaidan scenario, the country’s State Security Service said. The unrest is scheduled for October-December, when the European Commission will decide on Tbilisi's EU candidate status.
