The Supreme Court of Ingushetia has upheld the decision to extend the arrest of Ingushneft executive director Umar Balayev, who is accused of illegal oil production and other crimes. Balayev will remain in custody until November 20, bringing his total time in pretrial detention to more than eight months.
The Federal Security Service (FSB) detained a 45-year-old man in Stavropol Krai on suspicion of plotting a terrorist attack. According to RIA Novosti, the detainee was planning to blow up a transportation facility.
Investigators allege that a resident of Georgievsk contacted a representative of a Ukrainian organization and, following instructions, filmed transportation infrastructure in Stavropol Krai with the intent of subsequently organizing an act of sabotage.
In October, the suspect allegedly acquired the necessary components to build an improvised explosive device and set up a hiding place for them. Investigators note that he was detained while en route to the crime scene.
A criminal case has been opened against the detainee for preparing a terrorist attack. He is also charged with treason. He is currently in custody.
