A man suspected of participating in Shamil Basayev's unit was detained in Stavropol Krai

Security forces have detained a resident of Stavropol Krai suspected of involvement in Shamil Basayev's unit's attack on the Botlikh District of Dagestan in 1999 during the Second Russo-Chechen War.

According to investigators, Yaipkayev participated in combat operations against servicemen of a military maneuver group. A criminal case has been opened against Yaipkayev on charges of banditry, armed mutiny, and attempted murder of a serviceman. Officers from the FSB and the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Stavropol Krai participated in the operation.
