On November 3, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made several statements that did not go unnoticed by the Armenian side. Specifically, he said that Azerbaijanis "must return to their historical lands" [referring to the territory of modern-day Armenia], "not in tanks, but in cars." He emphasized that this prospect "should not frighten the people or the state of Armenia."
Hearing of Lawsuit to Ban Georgian Opposition Activity Begins
The Constitutional Court of Georgia has begun hearing a lawsuit filed by the country's parliament to ban three opposition groups. The document, supported by 88 MPs from the ruling Georgian Dream party, challenges the legality of the United National Movement, Coalition for Change, and Strong Georgia – Lelo parties.
Georgian Dream accuses the opposition of attempting to overthrow the constitutional order and encroaching on Georgia's independence and territorial integrity. If the parties are declared unconstitutional, they will be disbanded, and their members will be banned from political activity and holding public office. The hearing could take up to nine months.
